The Many Faces of Steele

Steele and I just got back from a trip to New York to visit Bre and Bry and our NEW grandson, Steele! What a great trip! (But FAR TOO SHORT!) We had such a wonderful time...we didn't see any Broadway Shows, we didn't go to any fancy restaurants, we didn't do any shopping! We didn't do any of the things that people normally do when they visit New York...we just stayed in and got to know our beautiful little grandson! It was the best trip ever! He is so cute and such a good baby and Bry and Bre are "naturals" as parents. Here are some of the many faces of baby Steele.

The time went by way to fast and it broke my heart to leave, but luckily they will be coming here in March to have Steele blessed! I'm counting the days! In the meantime, our video i chats will have to hold me over!
On the home front...we were lucky enough to have Nick and Chelsea stay here with Sean. (I know he is old enough to stay by himself, but I just felt better having Nick and Chelsea here.)

Can I just say how truly blessed I am to have such WONDERFUL daughters in law. Chelsea and Bre are so great! They are the perfect matches for our sons and they are so good to ALL of us! So thank you to Bre for putting up with Steele and I while we were in New York...and thank you Chelsea for putting up with Nick and Sean while we were gone. (I know they were in good hands!)

It's official...I'm a Grandma, let the worrying begin!

As most of you know...I'm a grandma! Bry and Bre had this beautiful little boy on December 31st. His name is Steele James and he's perfect! I was prepared for how much I would love him before he was ever born. I was prepared for how joyous I would be upon hearing the words, "You're a grandma!" I was prepared for how hard it would be for me to be so far away...BUT what I wasn't prepared for was how much I would worry! From the moment Bry called me to say that Bre was in labor... I started to worry.
A sleepless night, waiting for the updates, I couldn't really sleep or think about anything else until baby Steele arrived safe and sound at 2:03 PM. I was just so glad he was here and that Bre (after a very difficult labor) was finally out of pain and doing well. Whewww! Now I can relax...WRONG! Now the worrying really begins.
Wednesday I was on the phone, when it beeped with another call. I missed the call but saw it was from Bryan and called right back...no answer. Call back...no answer. Under normal circumstances, would I worry? No! But now there's a grandbaby...and the worrying begins. "Why did Bry call?" "Is something wrong?" Wait...wait...wait...call back, Bryan answers! "Mom, I'll call you right back!" Click! Wait..wait...wait...finally the phone rings. "Hi mom. I just wanted to tell you, your grandson is in the hospital!"
"WHAT?!?"
"Don't worry! He's ok, he's jaundice and they need to put him under the lights!"
This was just the beginning of a long couple of days for Bryan, Bre and little Steele! (I know Bre will be giving you all the details on her blog, so I will just hit the key points. )
Baby Steele went to the doctor on Wednesday. His bilirubin was 20.5. He was immediately sent to the hospital to start treatment. His numbers shot to 26! He was put in the ICU, with an IV and under lights. After some very worrisome days and nights, I am thrilled to say, Steele is coming home today!!! He was at 13.9 last night, so they took him off the lights. This morning he was at 12.6. So his liver seems to be working it out on its own. Mom and Dad are THRILLED! (So are Grandma and Grandpa!) It's been a rough couple of days for their little family. It's hard being so stinking far away from them! I am so grateful that Bre's mom is able to be there. I know she has been a HUGE help and support to the kids. I'm especially grateful Steele is well enough to come home! Welcome Home Baby Steele...we'll see you in few days!
